barefoot and crazy

life is full of changes. this is simply my attempt to go with the flow.

These last few …

These last few days have been crazy! Wednesday was spent running around and getting ready to work. I’m an Independent Consultant for a ‘candle’ company and I had a pretty large party Wednesday night- it was such a good time! I don’t usually get out too much to socialize so it was really nice to spend some quality time with such sweet, funny people. Yesterday was a complete train wreck and I’ve decided it’s better to put it behind me than dwell. Just one of those days when anything that will go wrong, does. Woosa. My mantra yesterday:

And I did partake in some chocolate. Entirely too much, thanks to an impulse purchase of Easter candy and some Girl Scout Cookies. Sneaky little girls.

Today has been nice, with some cousins play time and relaxation. I’m all about the relaxation for the next few days. I’m thinking some baking is in order too.

Just some pictures from the last few days…

After Sunday was so relaxing, Monday and today were just go-go-go! It feels good to just sit tonight. We just finished up dinner here and I’m watching an episode of HIMYM I’ve seen approximately seventy-two times. No big deal. Dinner tonight included one of the yummiest salads I’ve ever had:

Mixed greens, cranberries, feta & walnuts with a great semi-homemade spicy pineapple dressing. Oh. So. Good. An equally delicious, albeit small, piece of pizza made an appearance as well 😉 For dessert, a bit of this:

I’m just a sucker for chocolate. 🙂

Tomorrow, I’m very much looking forward to getting back into our routine. I know I’ll benefit from it but I think Goobs will be even happier than me. Girlfriend puts herself on a great schedule & I’m going to start taking advantage of it to get some workouts in. We’ll see how that goes tomorrow! Now a pic of our sweet girl then off to bed for us!

All the usual suspects: coconut froyo, strawberries, coconut & butterscotch chips.

Lana leaves shortly. This was actually a last minute stop before the train station. My body is craving green veggies something fierce so I’m thinking yummy salad tonight!

I needed this.

Being a mom is exhausting in the most amazing way you could imagine. What, being exhausted doesn’t sound amazing to you? I wouldn’t trade this kind of exhausted for all the sleep in the world but sometimes, you just need some out-of-the-house adult interaction.  Today was that day. On Friday, my college roommate came into town. Any time there’s company here, us ladies go a bit overboard on the yummy stuff. Last night was a trip to the steakhouse and froyo. Today was spent the way I think Sundays were meant to be spent: surrounded by amazing women at a coffee shop for brunch, an afternoon trip to Fresh Market and a delicious dinner. In pictures:

These were all taken at brunch. We met up with our sweet friend, Heather, and her Momma, Connie. I’ve been to Aroma’s many times but never for brunch. On Sundays, the Newport News location serves breakfast all day and I have to say, everything is delicious. I’ve never been disappointed with anything here. Today, I had the Southwest Chicken wrap and it was uh-mazingggg. I wish I had remembered to snap a picture but we were too busy with the conversation & I almost forgot I even had the camera! We all had such a great time, we’re going to make it a monthly tradition. Monthly Girl’s Brunch is a reason to smile in my book!

After brunch, Lana & I headed to Fresh Market for the ingredients for dinner tonight. I searched for a recipe this morning knowing that I’d want to make something quick, yummy and something that could be enjoyed easily from the couch while I watched the Oscar’s red carpet coverage 😉 This girl’s got her priorities straight! Pioneer Woman’s recipe for Pasta with Pancetta and Leeks won. This recipe was so easy, so quick, and so delicious! I made this for myself, Lana, my brother and my brother-in-law. Those boys are through and through meat-and-potatoes types and even they were impressed. The only real changes I made: I tossed in some garlic with the leeks, I added a bit of chicken stock when I added the wine and I used orecchiette because I think it’s fun 😉

How about these Oscars? I’m seriously pulling for Emma Stone and the rest of the gorgeous girls from The Help. Such a great movie (and I have a massive girl crush on Emma Stone but that’s a different post all together).

Now, if you’ll excuse me, there’s a piece of black cherry pie with my name on it (before you get too excited and ask for the recipe, Lana bought it at Fresh Market!)

Some of us took quite a lickin’ today!

It’s been quite awhile since my last post. I keep talking about getting back into blogging (this one isn’t my first attempt!) and I think rather than talking about it, I’m just going to take some action.

This weekend has been great 🙂 My college roommate, Lana, is visiting. We have brunch today with some amazing women and then we’re watching the Oscars tonight. I’ll be tossing together an amazing, yummy recipe later for dinner. Just what I needed, a nice relaxing few days. Stay tuned!

I’m trying…

Really I am. This week is turning out to be so busy, I’m losing even more sleep attempting to get things done. I’m having a great time spreading the word about my Scentsy business but I’m exhausted. I’m looking forward to this weekend but preparing means putting my daughter down a little more often than I’d like. She’s sleeping great during the day though so at least one of us is making out well 😉 I know that Sunday will be a day of snuggling, hot cider and pajamas in bed. That’s what’s keeping me ticking. Now if I could just find a way to get rid of these bags under my eyes by Saturday…

I’m behind again on my Thankful posts so here’s my 2 to catch me up:

#7: I’m thankful for Dancing with the Stars, Pan Am & Once Upon a Time. Maybe that sounds ridiculous but let me explain. For a few hours, my Momma & I sit down together (with baby girl, of course) and watch these shows. It’s just a few hours a week but it’s a few hours we get to spend together relaxing. Not cooking or cleaning or worrying. Just hanging out. My Momma has been my best friend since I was a little girl &, while we may want to kill each other on occasion, it’s nice to just be us.

#8: I’m thankful for Verizon. Again, ridiculous? No. Without them, I’d not only go weeks without seeing my husband but also without talking to him. The thought breaks my heart.

More tomorrow…

Day 6

With just 41 minutes to spare. Today, I’m thankful that I don’t have to work. I have a sweet husband who busts his butt (although he does love his job!) so I can live my dream and stay home with our sweet baby girl. We had the discussion about me wanting to stay home with my babies before I ever agreed to go out with him. Some weeks are tougher than others financially. While I know it kills him to be away from us for so long, hopefully after the first of the year that will change. It means more to me for the most part that we raise our children rather than a daycare and I thank God every day that we’re able to. I only wish the economy and cost of living were better so all the Mommas and Daddys out there could stay with their babies if they wanted to.

Day 5

Today, I’m thankful for that boy right there. My firstborn 😉 he kept me company when Jay was on the road, he loves his sister, he’s always so excited to see me & he’s (almost) always willing to cuddle. I love him. Before Jay bought him for me, I thought people who were so ‘into’ their pets were nuts. Now, I am one. Lord help me if anything happens to him. ❤

So busy here…

The past few weeks have been so busy here but in a good way. I finally found time to fold all the clean laundry I’ve been letting pile up since we came home from the hospital. Yes, that was almost 8 weeks ago. Don’t judge me. Rae had her first (of many!) photo shoot. I’ve done some baking. We’re planning our annual open house. My husband made a surprise visit.

First things first: My sweet friend Victoria (from Victoria Lynne Photography) came down to visit us with her husband, Mark. Even though she was only here two days, she took time to take some gorgeous photos of our gorgeous girl. I had so much fun hanging out and relaxing with them, it was just great. Can’t wait to see them again!

If you knew half of the baking I’ve done, you’d know I haven’t started Weight Watchers yet. I made these little beauties… twice. One giant batch of Pioneer Woman’s cinnamon rolls. I have cake pops on my list of things to do (if my brother in law sees this, they’ll have to be moved higher on my list)

Mom & I are planning our Annual Holiday Open House. We get a few home party consultants together, invite the neighborhood (and then some), throw in some food and spending the day shopping (and selling!). I’ll be sharing my Scentsy and Mom will be selling preorder pies and goodies for the holidays. Thirty One will be here, Tastefully Simple, Gold Does Good, Pampered Chef and Tupperware. Each year we expand a bit and we already have people interested in setting up next year! We always have such a good time.

Andddd, the highlight of my post (at least I think so!):

My sweet husband came home for the night! He called Wednesday night & said “What’s for dinner?” We were so excited and I was so glad he got to spend some time with Rae (I know he was too). She’s changed so much since he left and grows so much every day, it really meant a lot to me that he didn’t have to wait another 2 weeks to see her. I just love his expression in this picture and her’s too. 🙂 That’s my heart and soul right there folks.

I promise to be a better blogger from now on too. I’m a little late jumping on this bandwagon but I’m going to keep up on my blog by participating in the “25 things I’m thankful for” trend. I’m a bit behind so I’ll do 4 today.

#1: that picture up there. I’d be lost without my husband. He’s my best friend, partner, an amazing daddy and the best husband I could have hoped for. He’s stuck by my side through so much over the last 5 years and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank him properly. I’m so glad to have such a great person to spend the rest of my life with and so thankful that even after 5 years, he still gives me butterflies and makes me giggle. I’m also thankful for that beautiful baby girl. For years, we weren’t even sure I’d be able to have babies without the help of fertility treatments. The fact that she’s here, healthy and beautiful just tickles me. I could spend entire days just staring at her in amazement. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, even as the tears run down my cheeks right now. Thank God for them both.

#2: My amazing family. While we sometimes drive each other nuts being in the same house together, at the end of the day, we’re all having a good time and we love each other. I’m so glad to have everyone helping with Rae and grateful that she has so many people who love her around her every day.

#3: My handsome nephew. I love that boy to pieces and it’s eerie how much he looks like my brother. He’s too cute. I’m also thankful for his Momma. Even though they’re states away, she does such an amazing job keeping us all involved. We’re lucky she thinks of us and he’s lucky to have a Momma who cares so much.

#4: My friends. They may be (mostly) in New York and we may not talk as often as we ought to but I know if I needed something, they’d be right there. I hope they’re aware I’d do the same for them. I love that we can go months sometimes without talking but then pick right back up where we left off like it’s nothing. I’m such a lucky girl.

More tomorrow…

Wordless Wednesday
